Scott Bradford |
EXPLORING the deeper, darker reaches of the house music spectrum, Lexicon Avenue's Scott Bradford has forged a rock-solid reputation as a DJ who never fails to deliver.
From London to Lisbon, Toronto to Tokyo, and South America to Singapore, the affable spinner is regarded as one of the most consistent performers around.
Promoter and resident DJ at Shindig, one of the UK's most revered and longest-running nights, his vision and determination ensure the biggest and best names grace the decks on a weekly basis.
Now residing at Newcastle's impressive Digital, the weekly event’s success was instrumental in the venue securing the accolade of being named one of the 15 best clubs in the world by DJ Magazine in February 2007 - with the publication hailing it as "The Fabric of the North".
Widely regarded as both an institution and an inspiration, Shindig remains committed to serving up cutting edge sounds while also providing a platform for the most promising emerging talent.
After beginning his DJing career with slots at parties across the North East of England in 1989, Scott teamed up with friend and fellow turntable talent, Scooby, to launch the night at Club Afrika in 1992.
Its success snowballed and the pair decided to relocate to the city’s Riverside venue (later renamed Foundation). Continuing to go from strength to strength as word spread both home and abroad, it scooped Muzik magazine’s hotly-contested award for Best Underground Club Night in 2001.
By this time, Scott had already begun furthering his standing on the global dance music scene as one-third of the prolific Lexicon Avenue, teaming up with production partners Chris Scott and Mark Armstrong.
A formidable force in the development of UK house music since the late 90s, they launched their own label, Forensic, which soon gained immense international respect.
Expertly crafted to create maximum impact on the dancefloor, Lexicon Avenue’s tracks are fixtures in the sets of A-List DJs such as John Digweed, Deep Dish, Satoshi Tomiie, Danny Howells and Sander Kleinenberg.
They’ve been released on some of house music’s most influential imprints - including Yoshitoshi, Saw Recordings, Renaissance, Junior Boy’s Own and Hooj - as well as being licenced to leading compilations such as the Global Underground and Balance series.
Their success means Scott is in demand across the globe, regularly rocking world famous clubs like Pacha in Ibiza, Zouk in Singapore, Trilogy in Dubai, and Womb in Japan. Closer to home, Renaissance and Turnmills welcome him on to the decks on a frequent basis.
Such is Lexicon Avenue’s popularity, the trio were chosen to go head-to-head with Dave Seaman to mix the third installment of the Therapy Sessions compilation series. Released in October 2006 on Seaman’s own Audio Therapy label, they blended techier, electro-influenced cuts from Ame, Plastikman and Nick K, attracting a host of rave reviews.
Their fans had been eagerly waiting a follow up to their debut CD which hit the shelves in 2002 as part of NRK’s critically-acclaimed nite:life series.
In 2003, Scott seized the opportunity to put his club night centre stage with the Adventures of Shindig CD, before returning in 2004 with Forensic Science Exhibit A - featuring the finest selections from his own imprint’s back catalogue alongside a handful of previously unreleased exclusives.
His production work is not just restricted to Lexicon Avenue though and along with production partner Chris Scott he has cast his spell using an almost dizzying array of monikers including Little Green Men, New Phunk Theory, Third Movement, Fishead (with Satoshi Tomiie), and Bush People (with Mark Armstrong and Mara‘s Barry Gilbey). Scott also has a brand new production project with fellow Shindig resident, Mark Lowry.
Scott's and his production partners remix credits read like a Who’s Who of the biggest names in house music with Danny Tenaglia, John Creamer and Stephane K, Dirty Vegas and Science Department all being given their trademark dancefloor-friendly treatment.
Depeche Mode, Chab, Habersham, and Seal can also be added to the impressive list which continues to grow at a rapid rate.
Capitalizing on this popularity, Scott and Mark Armstrong record their own monthly radio shows which are regularly broadcast on stations worldwide including Argentina, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece and Lithuania.
Scott also regularly contributes guest mixes for John Digweed’s Kiss FM show, and in October 2006 he featured alongside Pete Tong on Radio One’s Essential Mix which was broadcast live from Shindig.
A regular on the station over the years, he’s been championed numerous times by Pete Tong, Danny Rampling and Seb Fontaine.
And so there we have it. Over the last decade-and-a-half, through Shindig, Forensic Records, Lexicon Avenue and numerous other production guises, Scott Bradford has carved out an enviable position as a DJ you can trust - a DJ who speaks the language of the dancefloor.
